Our Story

In the late 1800’s, many of the pioneer families settling in this part of the country found it too rugged and demanding, ultimately moving on. Those who stayed and made Silvies Valley their home left behind a diverse heritage that included a love for this rugged land and respect for its natural resources. Over the years that followed the 1950’s much of this heritage was lost and abandoned as the homesteads in the valley were bought and sold.

In 2007 the rocky history of ranch ownership came to an abrupt halt when Silvies Valley Ranch was purchased by Silvies Valley Ranch, L.L.C., a private company founded by the Campbell’s – a family with pioneer roots in Eastern Oregon even older than the ranch. In keeping with the ranch’s history and heritage, work on restoration of ranch lands and resources quickly returned Silvies to a productive working cattle ranch with premium hay cultivation. A rendition of one of the earliest ranch brands was adopted and recorded to help write this new chapter in the ranch’s long history of “returning home”.

Soon thereafter, Robb & Lisa Foster (also a long time Eastern Oregon family) joined the ranch as on-site management with a goal of returning Silvies Valley Ranch not only to its former position as one of the leading enterprises in Eastern Oregon, but as a new model for ranches throughout the United States. With a world class team of ranch associates working on a variety of ranching, recreation, livestock, restoration and wildlife projects the ranch continues to grow to its new potential as its recovery plan takes shape.

The Multi-Year Recovery Plan calls for the acquisition ofmore wildlife habitat, investment for development of new modern facilities, new homes for ranch associate families, dozens of miles of new fences, wildlife and fish habitat restoration, and the development of the existing Guest Ranch.

Today the ranch is made up of over 140,000 acres of deeded and leased National Forest and BLM lands in and surrounding Silvies Valley Oregon. Of the over 60 square miles of deeded property, there are 6,000 acres of mountain meadows, 14,000 acres of Ponderosa Pine forest, 20 miles of the Silvies River, over 20 named creeks and drainages, kids, cowboys, Quarter Horses and our own special breed of Heritage beef, as well as native Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, sage hen, grouse, quail, black bear, cougar, coyotes, bobcats, badgers, porcupines, beaver, martins, river otters, hawks, eagles, cranes, swans, geese, ducks, numerous songbirds, Red Band Trout, crawfish and frogs, among other residents.
