Welcome to The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch

We’re delighted to host you for an unforgettable experience. Nestled among breathtaking landscapes and expansive open spaces, our ranch offers an intimate connection to nature paired with exceptional comfort, personalized service, and refined hospitality.

As a private destination resort, advance reservations are strongly recommended for all accommodations, dining, and ranch experiences. While we may be able to accommodate requests on occasion, availability is not guaranteed and is subject to prior bookings and seasonal demand.

To help ensure a seamless arrival and an enjoyable stay, please review the information below before your visit. 

Arrival Information

Check-In

Check-In: 2:00 – 4:00 PM | Check-Out: 10:00 AM

Early Arrivals

Guests arriving before the official check-in time are welcome to begin enjoying the ranch experience upon arrival. Our Guest Services team will gladly store your luggage in our secure trunk room while your accommodation is being prepared. During this time, you are invited to explore the property, enjoy ranch amenities, dine at The Lodge, or simply relax and take in the surroundings.

We encourage guests to arrive early and make the most of their first day on the ranch.

Late Arrivals

Due to the ranch’s remote location and lack of cell service in the surrounding area, guests must arrive no later than 6:00 PM on their scheduled arrival date.

We strongly encourage guests to plan their travel accordingly and allow extra time for weather, traffic, and other unforeseen delays. For the most enjoyable arrival experience, we recommend arriving during daylight hours whenever possible.

Prior to departure, we recommend downloading your driving directions and gate access information, as cell reception is unavailable during the final portion of your journey.

If you anticipate difficulty arriving by 7:00 PM, please contact Guest Services before your travel date to discuss available options.

Getting to the Ranch

Arrival by Car

The ranch is easily accessible by car and can be found on all major navigation platforms, including Google Maps, Apple Maps, and other GPS applications.

Navigation apps will guide you directly to the ranch entrance. Due to the property’s remote setting, there is no cell service during the final portion of your journey. We recommend confirming your arrival time with Guest Services, planned driving route, and downloading directions before departing for the ranch.

Upon Arrival

When you arrive at the main gate off NF-37 Road, proceed to the gate call box.

  1. Press the Guest Services button
  2. This will connect you directly with our Guest Services team
  3. A team member will answer and remotely open the gate for your arrival
  4. Once you’re through the gate, follow the posted signs directing you to The Retreat

A member of our Guest Services team will be waiting to welcome you at the Gatehouse, assist with your arrival, and guide you through the check-in process.

Should you encounter any travel delays or have questions prior to entering areas with limited cellular coverage, please contact Guest Services before departing for the ranch.

Arrival at Rendezvous Coach & RV Park

If you are arriving for a stay at our RV park, follow the same gate entry procedures outlined above.

Once you’re through the main gate, take the first right and follow the posted signs to Rendezvous Coach & RV Park. Proceed directly to your reserved RV site and park in your assigned slip.

A member of our Guest Services team will meet you at your site to welcome you, assist with check-in, and answer any questions you may have about the ranch and its amenities.

Getting Here by Private & Chartered Aviation

Guests arriving by private or chartered aircraft are warmly welcomed. Complimentary ground transportation to The Retreat is available with advance scheduling.

Aircraft may land at the seasonal Silvies airstrip located on the ranch, or at nearby municipal airports in Burns or John Day, Oregon. 

Arrival Coordination

To ensure a seamless arrival experience, we kindly ask that guests:

  • Confirm estimated arrival time with Guest Services in advance
  • Provide aircraft tail number for flight tracking and coordination
  • Communicate any schedule changes as early as possible

Upon landing, our Guest Services team will meet you or your party and provide complimentary shuttle service to the ranch.

Silvies Airstrip Connectivity

Please note there is no cell service available at the Silvies airstrip or on the ranch. However, guest Wi-Fi is available at the hangar to assist with communications upon arrival.

During Your Stay

Golf Cart Transportation

To preserve the peaceful atmosphere of the ranch and minimize vehicle traffic, guest transportation throughout the property is exclusively by golf cart.

A golf cart rental is included with your resort fee, with one golf cart provided per two guests based on your reservation occupancy. Additional carts may be available on request subject to availability or additional fees.

Upon arrival, your vehicle will be parked in our designated guest parking area for the duration of your stay. From there, our team will assist with luggage transfer and transportation to your accommodation.

Cart Access & Use

  • Carts are intended for use only on designated ranch pathways.
  • Drivers must be at least 16 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license when operating ranch-issued carts.
  • For the safety and enjoyment of all guests, off-path or off-road driving is not permitted.

Please note that guest-provided electric bikes and similar personal motorized transport devices are not permitted at The Retreat due to insurance and liability considerations associated with operating within a working cattle and chevon ranch environment.

Our Guest Services team will provide a brief orientation upon arrival to ensure comfortable and confident use of your cart during your stay.

What to Pack

Our ranch embraces relaxed comfortable luxury. We recommend packing for both comfort and outdoor adventure.

  • Layers for cool mornings and evenings
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
  • Swimsuit for Spa day use of pools and hot tubs
  • Jeans for horseback riding
  • Closed-toe footwear

For your comfort and convenience, Silvies provides cowboy boots and riding helmets for guest use.

Important Note
Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited on the property. A curated selection of wine, beer, and spirits is available at The Lodge and Egan’s Hideout for your enjoyment.

Weather & Elevation

The ranch is situated in a high desert climate at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, where conditions can shift noticeably throughout the day. Guests should expect warm, sun-filled afternoons, cool mornings and evenings, and occasional breezes typical of this elevated desert environment.

We recommend dressing in layers to ensure comfort across changing temperatures and reviewing the local forecast prior to arrival. Sun exposure can be more intense at higher elevation, so sunscreen, hats, and hydration are strongly encouraged.

Guests traveling from lower elevations may wish to take a relaxed pace upon arrival to allow time to acclimate and fully enjoy the ranch experience.

Dining at the Ranch

Our culinary program showcases elevated ranch-inspired cuisine, rooted in seasonal preparation and the exceptional quality of ingredients sourced directly from the property.

Breakfast & Lunch

Breakfast and lunch are available à la carte at The Lodge, offering a relaxed yet refined selection of made-to-order favorites throughout the day.

A limited lunch menu is available at Egan’s Hideout, providing a more casual option on the golf course.

Dinner Experience

Evenings feature a set-menu, five-course ranch dining experience thoughtfully curated by our culinary team. This signature dinner reflects the heritage of the ranch and exclusively showcases beef and chevon raised on property, accompanied by our freshly baked signature sourdough bread, prepared daily in-house and served warm.

In the spirit of traditional ranch gatherings, all guests dine together at communal ranch tables, evoking the camaraderie and shared experience of historic cattle country hospitality.

Reservations & Policies

Advance dining reservations are required for all dinner experiences. Due to the bespoke nature of our culinary program and limited seating, we kindly request a 24-hour cancellation notice for any changes or adjustments to dinner reservations.

Dietary Accommodations

We are pleased to accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies when possible. However, due to our remote and rural location, advance notice is essential to ensure our culinary team can properly prepare and source appropriate alternatives. While we will make every effort to accommodate guest needs, availability may be limited based on ingredient access.

We encourage guests to notify us in advance of any dietary requirements so we may provide the most seamless and enjoyable dining experience possible.

Connectivity & Cellular Service

There is no cellular service available on the ranch due to our remote high desert location.

To ensure guests remain connected when needed, Starlink-powered Wi-Fi is available in all buildings throughout the property, including guest accommodations and common areas.

We strongly recommend enabling Wi-Fi Calling on your mobile device prior to departure for the ranch. This setting will allow you to make and receive phone calls and text messages over the ranch Wi-Fi network during your stay.

While we encourage guests to embrace the opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings, reliable connectivity is available when needed through our property-wide Wi-Fi system.

Ranch Etiquette

To preserve the experience for all guests and maintain the integrity of a working ranch environment, we kindly ask that guests observe the following guidelines:

  • Respect wildlife, livestock, and natural habitats at all times.
  • Observe all posted trail, safety, and ranch signage.
  • Operate golf carts responsibly and remain on designated pathways.
  • Maintain quiet enjoyment in guest areas during evening hours.
  • Follow guidance from ranch staff during all ranch activities.

  • Guest-provided electric bikes and all personal motorized vehicles are not permitted at the ranch due to operational and safety considerations within a working cattle ranch environment.
