Returning Home: Our Story
The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch embodies a legacy of resilience, rooted in the late 1800s when only the most tenacious pioneers thrived in this rugged Oregon landscape. While much of this heritage faded over time through changing ownership, a pivotal shift occurred in 2007. The Campbell family, with deep Eastern Oregon roots, acquired the ranch, embarking on a comprehensive restoration. Their vision quickly transformed Silvies back into a productive working cattle ranch, cultivating premium hay and re-embracing its storied past with a rendition of its earliest brand.
This new chapter gained momentum with the arrival of Robb and Lisa Foster, seasoned Eastern Oregon natives, who took on on-site management. Their ambition extends beyond restoring Silvies’ former prominence; they aim to set a new national standard for ranching. Supported by a world-class team, the ranch is actively pursuing a multi-year recovery plan, investing in modern facilities, family housing for associates, extensive fencing, and vital wildlife and fish habitat restoration. Today, Silvies spans over 150,000 acres of deeded and leased lands, a vibrant ecosystem teeming with diverse wildlife, heritage beef, Quarter Horses, and miles of pristine waterways – a testament to its ongoing journey of “returning home.”

The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch is a working cattle and goat ranch with a team of working livestock guardian dogs. No dog is allowed within 100 feet of a horse or one mile from the goats. We only allow licensed service animals. All licensed service animals must be up to date on all vaccinations, always leashed and with the handler, and subject to fees and signature of our detailed Pet Policy & Waiver.
What is the average length of stay?
To fully relax and enjoy our amenities, the average length of stay is 3 – 5 days.

What's the best way to get to Silvies Valley Ranch?
Most people drive, many fly to Boise, Redmond or Portland and then drive (we can also arrange a car or limo if desired). Many people fly their own planes or rent charters to the ranch, Burns or John Day and we will pick you up there. Not all that long ago all visitors came by stage or rode their horse – only a few arrive by horse now.

How do I get around the property?
We are a golf cart accessible only property. Our guest services team will assist with transporting your luggage to your room or cabin. You will be provided with a golf cart for the duration of your stay.
Is there cell service or Wi-Fi?
What options are available to accommodate dietary restrictions?
Our chefs can accommodate allergies or dietary restrictions with advance notice. Due to the remote and rural location of our ranch, we have limited ability to accommodate last-minute requests. Please be sure to let us know of any allergies or restrictions at the time of booking or when you’re working with our team to craft your custom itinerary.
What type of dining do we offer?
Breakfast and lunch are available daily in the Lodge with lunch available at The Hideout. Dinners are served “ranch style” at one big table every night in The Lodge. Our chef curated meals highlight the beef and chevon raised here on the ranch and complimented by fresh baked bread from the family’s 150+ year old sourdough starter.
What are the alcohol policies?
Is there a dress code?
We do not have a formal dress code. Most guests wear casual Western or golf attire. We are in a comfortable and relaxed environment with a casual fine dining service in the evening.
Is there a corkage fee?
How many golf courses are there at Silvies Valley Ranch?
Silvies is home to five total golf courses; our two 18-hole championship courses, a seven hole par-4 challenge course, a nine hole par-3 course, and our 18-hole reversible putting course.
When is the golf season at Silvies?
Our golf season kicks off with our annual Cinco de Silvies tournament on the first weekend in May. We operate through the end of October, weather dependent.
Are day guests able to access the golf courses, spa, and restaurant?
Day guests are welcome to visit with advance reservation and deposit.
To access the resort as a Day Guest, there is a resort fee per person per day. The resort fee includes the use of a golf cart, access to complimentary amenities, and access to book a premium activity or tee time based on availability.
Can I ship my golf clubs or luggage to Silvies?
Yes, golf clubs or luggage may be shipped in advance of arrival. We recommend using Ship Sticks.
Are there E-Bikes on the Ranch?
Unfortunately, we do not offer e-bikes on the Ranch, however we enjoy offering guests many options to enjoy the scenery of our vast property. From horseback to hiking and UTV offroading, we’re sure there’s something for everyone!
